It has high maximum damage, being a three-shot-kill (3SK) up close or a 2SK with headshots, but its minimum damage is below average for an LMG at 23 Although designed to be low-cost and easy to build, the MG 42 proved to be highly reliable and easy to operate. It is most notable for its very high cyclic rate for a gun of this calibre, averaging about 1,200 RPM compared to around 850 for the MG 34, and perhaps 450 to 600 for other common weapons like the M1919 Browning or Bren The MG 42 had one of the highest average rates of fire of any single-barreled man-portable machine gun: between 1,200 and 1,500 rpm, which results in a distinctive muzzle report. Through the use of various weights of bolt heads, and a barrel quick- change procedure taking between 5-10 seconds, this thing could put out a theoretical maximum of 1,200 rpm in its most commonly fielded form It was a good thing there were normally several spare barrels on hand for the MG42, especially if the barrel was supposed to be changed every three to four belts. With a rate of fire of at least 1,200 rpm and some guns clocking as many as 1,500 rpm, the MG42 needed them. I would go with the mg42 if you can use tight grip. I have mine at Max rpm and the damage barrel. With tight grip gold it feels really good, but still sways a bit when spraying. The generic German 'Machinegun Platoon' has the same stats throughout the entire war in both EF and WF. Curiously, in WF at least, the German 'Ski Machinegun Platoon' does have two distinct units, with the MG34 unit having less firepower as it should rightly so The principle changes were to move the feed mechanism to a more convienient location on the left of the breech, and the addition of a shroud around the barrel.
